My Story

My name is Anna Maria DeBartolo ~ I’m a trained Professional Organizer, certified Feng Shui professional, and the owner and founder of The Art of Placement Professional Organizing.

Several years ago, my mom, who was living with me and my family, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Over the coming years, the responsibility of taking care of her took a huge toll on my mental and physical health. I realized I needed help.

I decided to do the unthinkable and made the heartbreaking decision to have her live in a Long Term Care Home. Coming from an Italian background, we just didn’t do that! The guilt almost destroyed me.

I began the intimidating and overwhelming task of going through my mom’s things and choosing what items she would need in her new home. Every top I folded and purse I held, I felt a wave of emotions. Although I knew I had to let go of the things she cherished, it felt impossible to part with them. In hindsight, I realized the hardest part for me was not about letting go of her things, it was letting go of her.

While spending time with my mom in her new home, grieving the person she used to be, I privately started reflecting on my own life path. After 17 years of working as an Elementary School Secretary, I made the difficult decision to leave the job that I loved. Although it was a tough change, I realized I needed to pivot and pursue my long-time passion: organizing!

The Art of Placement was born! My reawakened purpose for organizing, and the desire to help others after the experience with my mom, was all I needed to get going. Organizing is truly an art for me and it brings me joy. I enjoy helping people, reviving and organizing their spaces, and feeling the shift of energy.
